So, you have an emergency kit and it includes lots of matches, right? Well, what if those matches got wet? They would be absolutely useless to you…unless you waterproofed them! Today, I am going to show you how to waterproof your matches to help protect against moisture in storage.
First, you need some stick matches and clear nail polish. Carefully dip the matches, strike side down into the nail polish. You don’t want a thick layer, but you do want the whole striking head to be covered.
Then, allow the matches to dry for about 2-3 hours. Overnight is really best if you can. You will want to lay them out so they don’t touch each other and stick together permanently.
